ABOUT ME
My artistic skills have been honed through research, reading, workshops, observation, and continuous practice, practice, practice rather than accredited coursework. I do remember high school drawing class and the guys in the front row, however. As a young adult, I juggled a new husband, our retail business, and later kids. I was pretty busy. So art got put on the back burner, so to speak. I started painting again in the early 90's. My life lines are my AK. Friends. "I am a Happy Artist in Alaska" since 2003. I find watercolor exhilarating on my journey as an artist. Watercolor paints are my joy even though they have a mind of their own, I find that most appealing and just let the colored water move about. Over the years, I have learned to nudge it when I want to and just let it be when it wants to, that's my favorite! I, also, love the feel of the line to characterize a place, person, or thing. I find birds whimsical, colorful, and fun to draw and paint. And they usually bring many smiles. My pencils and pens are never far from my hand. I find the act of drawing and painting brings me peace in my everyday life. My goal is to expand my subject matter and not limit my challenges. It's always nice to sell a piece of art now and then. I have had art work and greeting cards displayed in several venues from Seward to Homer, Alaska. One of my favorite sayings is "I live for my art not by my art." Another one is "Art is the only way to runaway without leaving home". ----- Twyla Tharp I will continue to experiment and allow it to move me in new directions.
